Delicate Perspective 2005
Specifically looking at structures and forms that were tenuous, layered, frail, yet complex and resilient, much like our own physical bodies, I found visual metaphor regarding the seemingly fragile, yet innate ability of the human body as a vessel to endure or sustain.
Subtly referencing specific forms in nature that I found beauty and understanding in I fabricated intimate objects and adornment that reflected the way I perceived the body as complex, fragile, and yet at the same time strong and resilient. These elaborate, metal-lace structures and vessels of both precious and non-precious material are meant to engage a wearer of the temporal yet resilient qualities they convey. Like my delicate skin protecting my strong skeleton structure underneath, I chose to purposely incorporate a skin and skeleton relationship within each. Utilizing extremely fine gauges of metal with the textile techniques of bobbin-lace and crochet, I chose to expose a more ordered or geometric lace pattern in some pieces and an almost unrecognizable, withered, or torn pattern in others.
