In this body of work I am incorporating the enamel technique of Champlevé. Utilizing etched patterns on silver, copper or steel, I hand manipulate surfaces of metal and enamel, allowing for rich tactile qualities to expose a more ordered or complete pattern in some pieces and an almost unrecognizable pattern in others. Manipulating specific geometric or “gem” shapes that have been etched with traditional-lace or "pricking patterns" of grids and dots used to create the warp & weft of the actual 3-dimensional lace, I often hand sew or stitch these tactile structures using fine gauges of metal. This body of work is ongoing and exists as intimate and wearable tactile maps of pattern, color, structure, reflection and meditation.
